The Truth About Addiction:

First lets realize that what we thought about addiction is wrong. Does the brain not flood itself with dopamine and the answer is yes. It then gets confused and shuts off the receptors because they cannot absorb the excess dopamine to regulate itself. That is why continued use creates withdraw. However does everyone who takes heroin , or oxycontin, or Norcos become addicted? We already know the answer is no

We have come to the knowledge that only a few users or patients become addicts. So we begin to look into why only a select few and why these particular individuals and what they were able to come up with is essentially there are genetic markers as well as environment in which they were reared. So the one underlying issue that all addicts and alcoholics have in common. They were disconnected from any group, people, they didn't fit in , and lack of bonding. This creates a hole or emptiness deep inside the psyche of the addict. Then the United States method for dealing with this is to incarcerate, humiliate and ostracized them even further. No This Is NOT how you battle addiction. First you start the physical detox without or with medication if necessary. Then build them up with life skills like Getting their G.E.D., time management, money management and budgets in building a resume, filling out the Application and how to be sucessful in the interviewing process. Then create comunity events, fundraisers, and projects together. This helps build bonding moments and connecting them back to self, relationships, and community. This helps to retrain the brain to trade the drugs dopamine reward for a more healthier experience. There is hope for the addict after 1 year to a year and a half after stop using the brain is back to normal functionality.

A 12 step program centered on Christs love and mercy and God's great grace along with experiential therepy . This is the only way. NOT the way we've been doing it. Give the addict something to fill the empty void, give them a connection to their self and a connection to their community instead of humiliation incarceration and ostracised.
